IBJI is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Hand and Wrist Surgery team.

Job Type: Full-time

Job Highlights
  • Travel between New Lenox and Joliet offices, Salt Creek Surgery Center, and Plainfield Surgery Center.
  • Specialty focus:
    Hand & wrist orthopedic surgery.
  • Surgical responsibilities:
    Participate in OR cases involving suturing, splinting, drilling, and screw/wire replacement, etc.
  • Outpatient surgery only.
  • Minimal rounding and minimal call, evenly split with the current PA on the team.
  • High level of independence in clinic and OR.
  • Work under the supervision of the physician, who is available as needed.
Responsibilities Clinic Activities
  • Obtain histories and perform physical exams; update patient status for rechecks.
  • Interpret X-rays.
  • Order additional imaging (CTs, MRIs).
  • Perform hand and wrist injections independently.
  • Apply casts, splints, braces, etc., under physician supervision.
  • Remove staples and sutures.
  • Prescribe medication.
  • See patients in clinic independently or with supervision; dictate clinic notes and develop treatment plans with physician approval.
Other Functions
  • Assist in triaging physician calls.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all patient visits.
  • Occasional peer-to-peer review for MRIs ordered.
  • Follow up as needed.

Performs other duties within guidelines per department and policy according to the sponsoring/attending physician’s practice and current clinical privileges.

Communication

Internal:
Physicians, other PAs and NPs, administrators, clinical and non-clinical staff. External:
Patients, families, outside referral sources/physicians, hospital personnel, vendors, regulatory/insurance personnel.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; lifting up to 50 lbs (patient transfers); ability to bend and stoop; exposure to blood-borne pathogens;
English language communication required; exposure to weather elements and travel to association Hospitals/Hoa facilities.

Requirements Educational Requirements / Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Physician Assistant IL state licensure up to date.
  • Training in orthopedic care preferred.
  • Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Active Certification from NCCPA.
  • Active Licensure as Physician’s Assistant in the State of Illinois.
  • ACLS desirable; current CPR required.
Qualifications And Experience
  • New graduates are welcome to apply; training and mentorship provided.
  • Ability to make independent clinical decisions.
  • Competence, judgment, stability, and professional integrity.
  • Experience diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Working knowledge of managed care basics and experience with managed care and Medicare populations.
  • Knowledge of practice management and EHR software.
  • Ability to lift and assist patients as needed.
  • Self-starter, highly organized with good time management.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills with physicians, patients, and staff.
  • Ability to develop constructive working relationships and maintain them over time.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize information for smooth workflow.
  • Ability to interpret complex instructions and determine appropriate actions; use of logic and judgment for problem-solving and referral decisions as needed.
Compensation & Benefits

Base salary offers may vary by location, skills, and experience. Benefits for eligible employees (30+ hours/week) include: medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance; short- and long-term disability; 401(k) with company match and profit sharing; wellness program; health savings accounts; flexible spending accounts; ; and coverage for accident, critical illness, and hospital benefits. Paid holidays and paid time off are provided.

Salary: $102,000 - $145,400 per year
