Overview
The Program Coordinator plans, coordinates, implements, and oversees a transportation program that provides senior citizens with safe and reliable access to shopping locations, healthcare facilities, clinics, and other essential service centers. This position ensures the efficient scheduling and dispatching of transportation services to meet program demands while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and customer service.
The coordinator manages daily dispatch operations by assigning routes, monitoring service schedules, and maintaining ongoing communication with bus operators to provide timely instructions and respond to operational requests. Ensures all routes are properly staffed, monitors service performance, and addresses delays or service disruptions in a timely and effective manner.
Serves as a primary point of contact for program participants, drivers, and internal staff by responding to customer inquiries, resolving service concerns, and providing accurate information regarding transportation services and scheduling. Performs related administrative, reporting, and operational duties as required to support the efficient delivery and continuous improvement of the senior transportation program.
Responsibilities- Operates a variety of communication equipment including two-way radio, telephone, computer, mobile dispatch terminal and scheduling systems.
- Monitors computerized driver manifests/schedules; responds to requests for schedule updates, changes and provides information to passengers, drivers and the general public.
- Establishes program plans and budgets.
- Implements adherence to program guidelines.
- Organizes, assigns work, and supervises the activities of staff and the program.
- Prepares informational releases and promotional material concerning the program.
- Creates and maintains public relations and serves as liaison with the general public, community groups, and other agencies.
- Participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff members.
- Prepares routes and schedules for buses to follow.
- Assists in the preparation of proposals and applications for continuation of the program.
- Is responsible for the acquisition, storage, and use of equipment and supplies.
- Prepares correspondence and reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Evaluates the services provided, identifies problem areas and needs, and provides alternatives for the utilization of available resources.
- Evaluates client requests and determines acceptance of applications for service.
- Attends to clients' complaints and inquiries.
- Performs necessary work in subcontracting specific services to outside agencies.
- Attends to senior citizens related problems and organizes supplemental activities.
- Visits field locations to ascertain and evaluate existing conditions.
- Directs the establishment and maintenance of necessary records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- At least six (6) months of experience in radio dispatching or work involved in the operation of radio and telephone equipment.
- Possession of a Commercial Radio Operator Permit/License of any level issued by the Federal Communications Commission may be substituted for the above experience.
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $50,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
