The primary purpose of this role is to support the safe, reliable, and efficient construction, maintenance, and operation of utility infrastructure by performing physically demanding fieldwork in diverse and often hazardous environments. This position requires strict adherence to all Federal, State, Local and PHI safety regulations—including DOT requirements—while executing tasks such as climbing, lifting, operating aerial equipment, working at extreme heights, accessing confined spaces, and handling or working near energized electrical equipment.
The role is also responsible for responding to emergencies, providing first aid when needed, and working varying schedules, including overtime, holidays and inclement weather, to ensure continuous and safe delivery of utility services.
- Compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation (minimum 18 years of age, physical certification, substance‑abuse testing, etc.).
- Perform physically challenging tasks for extended periods (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing poles, ladders and scaffolding, excavating trenches, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking and squatting).
- Work in a variety of environments, including outdoors in all weather, extreme heights (above 30 ft), around energized electrical equipment, confined spaces, underground, noisy and dirty conditions, while wearing required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Operate aerial lifts.
- Use safety equipment per Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (ear plugs, helmets, dielectric boots, rubber gloves, hard hat, fire‑retardant clothing, etc.).
- Work on or around hazardous equipment and energized electrical equipment.
- Apply resuscitation techniques and render practical first aid.
- Work overtime, varying shifts, holidays, weekends, emergencies or standby as needed.
- Work in inclement weather.
- Lifting 50 lbs, electrical theory knowledge, climbing ability, CDL qualification, extended shifts including nights and weekends.
High School/GED
Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities- Must possess or be qualified to obtain an interstate motor vehicle operator’s license (CDL class A with a HAZMAT endorsement) within six months of entry.
- Live within a reasonable distance from the assigned District Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass the qualification test.
- Pass a Criminal History Records Check.
- Pass a medical screening, including a drug test.
- Experience using hand, pneumatic and/or hydraulic tools to perform manual work functions.
- Experience operating non‑commercial driver’s license vehicles and material handling equipment.
- Experience handling, using and preparing materials, equipment and electric tackle (lines, rigging).
