Registered Nurse - Pediatric PACU

Position Type: 13 Weeks

Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (11:00 - 23:00) Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:00)

Hours per Week: 40

Pay rate: $65-$70 per hour

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team at Upstate University Hospital. This role involves providing expert care to pediatric patients in pre- and post-operative settings, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical care and pediatric experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to pediatric patients in the pre- and post-anesthesia phase.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor vital signs, manage airways, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless patient transitions.
  • Administer medications, including IV fluids and pain management per physician orders.
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Epic electronic health record system.
  • Follow all hospital policies and safety standards to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Provide compassionate patient care and ensure a safe, comfortable imaging environment.
  • Participate in on-call rotations every third day after 6 PM and every third weekend.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary staff to support patient care.
  • Follow infection control and safety standards for all imaging procedures.
Education and Qualifications
  • Current NY RN license (in good standing) – required
  • BLS certification (AHA) – required
  • PALS and ACLS certification – preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in a hospital of similar size and trauma level
  • Pediatric Critical Care or PACU experience – required
  • Experience working in a Level I or II Trauma Center – preferred
  • Epic EMR experience – preferred
  • Strong communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills
