The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals. This role supports medical intake, sick call, chronic care, medication administration, and coordination with medical and mental health providers to ensure safe, compliant, and patient-centered healthcare delivery within a correctional environment. The RN works collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, custody staff, and County representatives to maintain continuity of care and uphold correctional healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Nursing Care- Perform medical intake assessments and ongoing nursing evaluations.
- Conduct sick call assessments and provide nursing interventions.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor and manage chronic medical conditions.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide triage as required.
- Collaborate with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Mental Health staff.
- Communicate patient status and changes in condition to providers.
- Assist with continuity of care and follow-up services.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records.
- Ensure compliance with NJ correctional healthcare standards, policies, and procedures.
- Follow infection control, medication safety, and documentation protocols.
- Work effectively within a secure correctional setting.
- Follow all safety, security, and facility procedures.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings as required.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing).
LicensureActive and unrestricted New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) License - Required.
Experience- Experience providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience in correctional, institutional, behavioral health, or similar healthcare environments preferred.
- Direct patient care and clinical nursing assessment.
- Medication administration and treatment management.
- Intake, sick call, and chronic care nursing.
- Emergency response and triage.
- Documentation and electronic medical records.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Knowledge of correctional healthcare standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a secure environment.
- Licensed New Jersey RN with experience in institutional or correctional healthcare.
- Strong clinical judgment and documentation skills.
- Comfortable working onsite in a correctional facility.
