Job SummaryRegistered Nurses (RNs) deliver care to inmate patients utilizing the nursing assessment protocols in assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established philosophy. RNs collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. RNs effectively interact with patients, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing.
Corrections Nurses provide care to inmate patients to promote & improve their overall health utilizing the nursing process in triage, professional training, and various resources in accordance with regulatory agencies and established guidelines. The inmate patient population generally has not had consistent access to healthcare prior to their incarceration. This provides an opportunity for nurses to see and care for a variety of health concerns from minor ailments to major and atypical conditions.

- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
- Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.
- Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility.
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.
- Follows facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence Protocol.
- Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations.
- Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.
- Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility.
Corrections Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to the correctional facility guided by nursing protocols. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform assessments of inmate patients in various settings within the institution.
- Collaborate with primary care providers to ensure continuity and appropriateness of care.
- Coordinate and administer medication, treatments, and therapeutic agents.
- Report reactions to treatments and changes in patient conditions.
- Provide inmate patient education and discharge planning.
- Record all care information accurately and timely.
- Promote a therapeutic environment ensuring professional and ethical treatment of inmates.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on the setting.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of employment.
- At least one (1) year of RN experience.
- Previous correctional healthcare experience preferred.
- Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Assertive, empathetic, and objective care provision.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Maintain BLS/CPR certification.
Must pass health and screening tests. May require night, weekend, and holiday shifts, and on-call duties. Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and communicate effectively.
