Overview
The Material Handler supports machine shop operations by safely and efficiently moving raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods throughout the department. This role requires strong forklift skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with machinists and supervisors to maintain smooth workflow and production schedules.

- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport materials within the machine shop.
- Load, unload, and stage raw materials, finished parts, and scrap as required.
- Measure and verify materials to ensure compatibility with machining requirements and available stock.
- Deliver materials to machines and work areas according to production schedules.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and promptly resolve material-related issues.
- Maintain accurate inventory, production, and quality assurance records, both electronically and manually.
- Identify material shortages, damages, or discrepancies and report them to supervision.
- Assist with inventory counts and material audits as needed.
- Follow all safety regulations, company policies, and proper material handling procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, machinists, and other departments regarding material status and needs.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to material flow and shop efficiency.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Introductory competence in shop math, including fractions and decimals.
- Basic knowledge of metal properties and other manufacturing materials.
- Familiarity with shop safety protocols and safe forklift operation.
- Ability to follow work instructions and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment a plus.
- Forklift experience required; certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification).
- 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM (includes a 10% shift differential)
