Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.
I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Operations, Membership, and Programs (OMP) Manager provides integrated leadership across chapter operations, membership, and program initiatives for the NASW New Jersey Chapter. The OMP Manager supports the effective day-to-day functioning of the NASW New Jersey Chapter by coordinating chapter operations, membership services, and professional development programs.
The OAP Manager serves as a key member of the leadership team and works closely with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteer leaders to strengthen chapter infrastructure, expand membership value, and advance the social work profession.
This role ensures seamless delivery of member engagement activities, continuing education events, and administrative processes that advance chapter priorities and member value. The OMP Manager works closely with the Executive Director and attends various events and meetings.
II. BASIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organization Operations Oversight:
- Oversees day-to-day administrative operations and ensures smooth office functionality including maintaining and processing digital and paper files, deposits, mail, and supply inventories.
- Supports event logistics, including registration, vendor coordination, and materials preparation.
- Evaluates and improve administrative systems for efficiency and consistency.
- Manages operational planning for chapter initiatives, events, and committees.
Membership Services:
- Leads membership engagement, retention, and growth initiatives.
- Serves as primary staff contact for membership inquiries and support.
- Oversees membership services, communications, and support processes.
- Monitors membership data, trends, and engagement metrics.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director on ways to strengthen member values through programs, benefits, and outreaches.
- Oversees membership campaigns and recruitment strategies.
Program Oversight:
- Provides strategic oversight of continuing education and professional development programs.
- Monitors program quality, participation, and revenue performance.
- Strengthens engagement of Share Interest Groups, committees, volunteers, and interns.
- Works closely with the Executive Director to align volunteer initiatives with the Chapter’s strategic priorities.
- Serves as staff liaison to assigned committees and workgroup as requested by the Executive Director.
General Duties:
- Supervises the Chapter’s staff related to program, operations, and CE staff and volunteers, including the Membership & Programs Coordinator.
- Strengthens alignment between volunteer initiatives and chapter strategy.
- Reports to Executive Director on strategic planning and chapter growth initiatives.
- Represents NASW NJ at various events and meetings in the absence of the Executive Director.
III. MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Skills:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to build trust and collaborate across sectors and with diverse stakeholders.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- This position requires the ability to routinely travel to the Princeton, NJ office and throughout the state, as needed.
Knowledge:
- Master’s degree in social work, public policy or related field required (social work preferred).
- Experience in nonprofit, association, or professional membership organization leadership
- Knowledge of New Jersey’s continuing education administration and compliance.
