As part of our Water Business Group, you’ll help shape how communities manage water for generations to come, from delivering safe drinking water to treating wastewater responsibly, developing sustainable water supplies, and protecting lives and property through flood control. Your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.
PrimaryResponsibilities Water Resources Marketing and Strategy Responsibilities
- Develop and drive a long‑range vision and strategy for HDR’s NY/NJ Water Resources Market Sector disciplines.
- Identify, develop, and implement Water Resources initiatives to the marketplace.
- Collaborate with other technical and marketing staff in pursuit of new projects and lead key pursuits.
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
- Lead HDR’s Water Resources branding in the NY/NJ area by engaging in professional organizations.
- Promote the Water Resources market and serve as a Client Manager for select agencies.
- Develop relationships with industry counterparts in consulting organizations and senior leadership in key client organizations.
- Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans, support talent management and recruiting.
- Identify technical gaps and support hiring of engineering/project management staff.
- Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams and supervise senior engineers.
- Mentor staff and support the development of technical experts.
- Support project staffing and resourcing decisions, workload, and MS utilization.
- Coordinate and collaborate on Market Sector services with Business Class Leaders.
- Work with the Area Business Group Manager on development and delivery of Market Sector initiatives.
- Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing, project managers, and delivery staff.
- Participate in delivery of project services through planning, design, and construction phases.
- Serve as Principal in Charge, Project Director, Project Manager, Technical Lead, or Quality Manager.
- Lead development of scopes of work, fee estimates, risk identification, and schedules.
- Assist with contract review to ensure risk management, staffing, and quality control.
- Ensure integration of best technology and solutions into project delivery.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
- Existing Municipal, State and Federal relationships to drive growth.
- 10+ years water resources leadership experience including staff supervisory experience.
- Professional Engineer licensed in NY, NJ, or ability to obtain license via reciprocity.
- Preference given to local candidates.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years industry experience.
- Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
- Experienced in managing a wide range of client relationships and program/project pursuits.
- Experienced in overall staff development, recruiting, career path and professional growth.
- Experienced with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the market sector.
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and national leadership groups.
- Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and active participation in employee‑owned culture.
