Position Summary: The Maintenance Tech 1 position is part of a team of operators, responsible for the general upkeep of the building and its infrastructure; maintaining safe, clean, functional building space and grounds. This entry-level position performs basic maintenance and repair tasks with some/close supervision, learning specialized skills and handling fundamental tasks like (and not limited to) preventative maintenance, basic electrical/plumbing/HVAC related work, carpentry, painting, landscaping/snow mitigation/field grooming & lining, pest control, roofing, safety procedures, and troubleshooting with the aid of schematics and hand tools.
This position requires a service mentality, can-do/team player attitude, desire to learn, courteous demeanor, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and project coordination. This role functionally reports to the Director of Facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Basic Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and fix simple issues on various types of equipment, furniture, materials, hardware, vehicles, and school resources like carpet & ceiling tiles, desks, whiteboards, shelves, chairs, doors/door handles, windows/window blinds, golf carts, mowers, field groomers, etc. - Preventative Maintenance:
Work with Director to carry out scheduled basic upkeep, testing, and monitoring tasks, including light bulb & ballast replacements, boiler readings, vehicle & equipment inspections, and vendor & contractor walkthroughs. - Mechanical, Plumbing, Building Internals, Electrical Tasks:
Perform basic maintenance on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, simple electrical circuits, breakers, leaks, hot water tanks, water softeners, pumps, compressors, and kitchen/concessions equipment. - Reading & Maintaining Schematics:
Organize and reference blueprints, floor plans, service manuals, and departmental records & paperwork. - Work Order Management:
Utilize mobile apps and handheld devices to receive, track, update, and close work orders, logging such details as labor, parts used, and follow-up; promptly and attentively responds to work order requests within established parameters and time frames; performs work in the least disruptive manner possible to school-day operations. - Safety Procedures:
Adhere to and perform safety protocols set forth by OSHA, building checklists, and daily inspections & rounds - Opening/Closing, Walkthrough, Lockdown, and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary;
Identifies and informs supervisor of potential safety problems. - Custodial/Porter Services:
Perform school day spot cleaning and checks of bathrooms, hallways, cafeteria, exterior property, laundry & linen service, and garbage removal. - Set-Up / Break-Down:
Perform regular duties pertaining to the set-up and break-down of resources for school events. - Inventory & Supplies:
Receive and deliver all deliveries and mail to/from the school;
Maintain inventory, track orders, record-keeping, and filing for the department.
Be willing to obtain a Low-Pressure Boiler License, take an Integrated Pest Management Course, sit for the OSHA 10-hour course, and participate in annual asbestos O&M awareness courses.
