Job Description

The Part-Time Nursing Clinical Preceptor will employ a range of suitable strategies to foster student learning, stimulate discussions and encourage active learning, maintain proper course-related records, and promptly assess student coursework and apprise students of progress in the clinical area. Positions available are in Medical Surgical, Foundations, Psych, Maternal-Newborn, Pediatrics.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical supervision of the assigned group(s) of students in the clinical setting, including planning appropriate learning activities and materials to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Orient students to the clinical unit and select appropriate learning experiences (e.g., patient assignments, clinical conferences).
  • Observe and guide student performance, review procedures and principles, and provide on-the-spot instruction as appropriate.
  • Evaluate students’ clinical performance weekly in writing and verbally as needed, including feedback on nursing care plans, medication cards, pathophysiology cards, specialty rotation papers, and research projects when assigned.
  • Document clinical observations and incidents; consult with students to review progression toward outcomes and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
  • Administer clinical evaluation forms and report grades to the Course Coordinator; maintain relevant student records.
  • Use standardized instructor evaluation forms to obtain feedback; maintain a cooperative relationship with clinical staff to facilitate learning.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Course Coordinator and attend course team meetings; assist with laboratory preparation and demonstrations when indicated.
  • Complete orientation with the clinical site unit manager and meet mandatory site requirements; attend meetings as required by Academic Chair or designees.
  • Participate in college affairs to support a strong instructional institution and collaborate with colleagues on department activities.
  • Consult with Academic Chair, Course Coordinator, or other college personnel on questions about course, curricula, instructional strategies, and policies.
  • Pursue professional growth to continuously improve teaching effectiveness; adjunct faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities.
  • If the instructor is absent, notify the Course Coordinator and HSE Office as soon as possible.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • MSN from a four-year college or university.
  • Registered Professional Nurse License from the State of New Jersey.
  • Current CPR certification (Professional Rescuer or AHA Healthcare Provider, BLS-C).
  • Recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting.
