The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting providers and patients throughout the care experience. This position requires clinical competence, professionalism, attention to detail, and a calm presence in a fast-paced obstetric environment.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Support
- Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs and medical histories
- Prepare patients for OB/GYN visits, ultrasounds, procedures, and lab work
- Assist providers during exams and procedures as needed
- Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing
- Administer injections and medications per protocol and provider order
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, instruments, and supplies
- Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families
- Support patients through pregnancy-related concerns, including anxiety, symptoms, and questions
- Reinforce provider instructions and assist with patient education
- Coordinate follow-up care, labs, imaging, and referrals
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Assist with scheduling, intake forms, and chart preparation
- Support prior authorizations, lab coordination, and record requests as needed
- Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent clinical training preferred
- Experience in OB/GYN, women’s health, or primary care strongly preferred
- Phlebotomy experience required
- Familiarity with EMR systems (OB-specific EMRs a plus)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a clinical environment while maintaining warmth and professionalism
- Passionate about maternal and women’s health
