Overview

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting providers and patients throughout the care experience. This position requires clinical competence, professionalism, attention to detail, and a calm presence in a fast-paced obstetric environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Support
  • Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs and medical histories
  • Prepare patients for OB/GYN visits, ultrasounds, procedures, and lab work
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures as needed
  • Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing
  • Administer injections and medications per protocol and provider order
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, instruments, and supplies
Patient Experience & Communication
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families
  • Support patients through pregnancy-related concerns, including anxiety, symptoms, and questions
  • Reinforce provider instructions and assist with patient education
  • Coordinate follow-up care, labs, imaging, and referrals
Administrative & Workflow Support
  • Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Assist with scheduling, intake forms, and chart preparation
  • Support prior authorizations, lab coordination, and record requests as needed
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards
Qualifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent clinical training preferred
  • Experience in OB/GYN, women’s health, or primary care strongly preferred
  • Phlebotomy experience required
  • Familiarity with EMR systems (OB-specific EMRs a plus)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask in a clinical environment while maintaining warmth and professionalism
