Under the direct supervision of the modality or department leader, the Diagnostic Imaging Aide coordinates the activities of the department through communication, requisitioning, and managing of supplies, equipment and staff. Interacts and communicates with personnel from various departments and support services as well as the public and department co-workers. Provides administrative and clerical support to the department.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in completing assigned duties/responsibilities according to established protocols for procedures being performed.
  • Has knowledge of various procedures and understands the use and implications when imaging contrast is being used. Reviews lab work values for IV contrast studies as well as medical terminology as related to patient history.
  • Provides Clerical Support:
    Assist other team members to fulfill department needs (test ordering, test result processing, making copies, filing, mailing, telephone calls, film/report retrieval/printing/faxing).
  • Schedules guests/customers appropriately based on physician script request, history or new concern. Provides appropriate instructions for pre-registration and specific test preparation.
  • Responsible for patient/data management:
    Maintains consistent records for billing and appropriate tracking (activating accounts, patient in/out, film sign-out log, responds timely to film requests). Reschedules patients as needed and maintains a system for cancellations, pathology, etc.
  • Provides safe direct patient care and assists technologist, radiologist/nurse as needed.
  • Provides appropriate support in all Diagnostic Imaging areas as needed and coordinates cases as directed by the technologist or provider.
  • Greets patients and guests upon arrival, provides complete and accurate instructions, and assists with paperwork for appropriate tests.
  • Retrieves needed patient-related documents from the computer for Radiologist and staff; retrieves and disseminates imaging medical records; uploads external imaging onto PACS.
  • Follows network policy for patient identification; assists with positioning patients on/off procedure tables using proper body mechanics, including lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Provides clerical support to the clinical team in critical value reporting.
  • Stocks and cleans rooms, records temperatures for refrigerators and warmers, and maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Observes patients in holding areas and assists in transferring and transporting patients safely; adheres to Falls Prevention protocols.
  • Adheres to department protocols, regulatory standards, and participates in required continuing education and e-learning.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • High School diploma, GED, or GED equivalent programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite).

Skills And Abilities

Preferred
  • Previous data entry experience.
Licenses And Certifications Required
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of entering position.
Working Conditions

Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs, pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs, and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.

Compensation

Minimum rate of $20.32 hourly. Hackensack Meridian Health is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
