Job Description / SummaryThe Peer Recovery Support Specialist draws upon lived experience to carry a message of hope and recovery to individuals experiencing a substance use disorder. They provide encouragement, support, outreach, service linkages, and advocacy. They cultivate connections with parents/caregivers and coach them to achieve recovery goals while modeling personal responsibility.
Essential Job Function- Reinforce, guide, and assure parents/caregivers and their families that recovery is possible and built on each individual's strengths and resources.
- Assist parents/caregivers in gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.
- Assist in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery.
- Enhance identification and participation in the recovery community.
- Empower parents/caregivers to make self‑determined and self‑directed choices about their recovery pathway.
- Collaborate with the parent/caregiver to develop a Recovery Plan, including culturally competent services, measurable objectives, strengths assessment, barrier identification, and progress monitoring.
- Attend all Family Team Meetings, focus on supervision as requested, participate in case consultation with parent/caregiver and DCP&P case worker, attend consortia when applicable, and attend agency staff meetings.
- Educate parent/caregiver on navigating treatment, social service, and recovery support systems.
- Serve as a positive role model by sharing knowledge, hope, and skills.
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
- Exhibit critical thinking abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalency; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Knowledge of addictions preferred.
- At least 2 continuous years of sustained recovery.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
The Department of Children and Families approved Peer Recovery Support Service training, including Ethics and Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Additional agency‑specific training may be required.
