The Financial Assistance Representative Level I is responsible for financial assistance processing, general admissions, and the patient registration process. This position verifies a patient's ability to qualify for a program that will help with their financial responsibility. The Financial Counselor Level I will also verify third party payer accounts, pre-authorization and/or pre-certification requirements. The Financial Assistance Representative Level I communicates and collaborates with Patient Access team members and other ancillary departments as needed.
Responsibilities- Assist patients in applying for state and federal government funded programs such as Medicaid and Charity Care.
- Verify third party payer accounts, pre-authorization/pre-certification requirements.
- Perform duties after a six-week training program under the supervision of the Patient Access management team.
- Deliver excellent customer service at every entry point throughout the health system and support patient throughput, wait times, and turnaround times (TAT) for all Patient Access areas.
- Maintain high accuracy rates for KPIs including Charity Care, presumptive eligibility application completion, cash collections, wait times, TAT, and pre-registration/registration productivity.
- Aim for annual performance evaluations to meet or exceed targeted ratings and pursue advancement opportunities through the Patient Access Career Path, subject to program requirements.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to communicate effectively, read and apply policies, and obtain information from multiple sources. Bilingual preferred.
- Experience: 0–1 year in healthcare registration or relevant customer service environment required. Knowledge of general computer and data entry functions. Prior experience in a physician's office or hospital setting preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Professional conduct aligning with Atlanti Care values.
- Licensure/Certification: Must complete Presumptive Eligibility certification within three months of start date, when applicable.
- Pass annual recertification with target scores (90% initially, then 95% for advanced progression).
- Achieve an annual evaluation rating of Valued Contributor or higher and maintain required certifications and coursework to progress within the Career Path.
- Participate in required trainings and in-services and complete required competency tests.
Physical Requirements
- Potential exposure to hospital hazards, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, and potential injuries.
- Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch (approximately 25% of the workday); frequent lifting (25–30 pounds) and occasional lifting 50–100 pounds with assistance.
- Push/pull duties for moving computers on wheels, particularly in the Emergency Department or Labor and Delivery settings.
This position reports to department leadership.
