Position: Head of Tax
Location: New Jersey
About the RoleWe are partnered with a leading reinsurance firm seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Tax to lead their tax function. This individual will oversee all aspects of corporate tax compliance, tax provisions, and planning, with a particular focus on the reinsurance industry. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to partner with senior executives to drive business strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the company’s overall tax function, including corporate tax compliance, tax provisions, planning, and risk management.
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
- Manage quarterly and annual tax provision calculations under US GAAP, including review of effective tax rate and deferred tax balances.
- Provide strategic guidance on tax planning opportunities, M&A, and structuring of transactions within the insurance sector.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impact on the company’s business operations.
- Partner closely with senior management, finance, legal, and business units to align tax strategy with business objectives.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team, fostering collaboration and professional development.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or advanced degree in Tax or Accounting strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive tax experience, with significant leadership responsibilities.
- Deep knowledge of corporate tax compliance and tax provisions.
- Prior experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry is ideal.
- Strong technical expertise in US GAAP and relevant tax regulations.
- Proven ability to develop and execute tax strategies in a complex, regulated environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at the executive level.
