Assistant Port Engineer Job Summary
This pivotal shore-side management role offers an exciting opportunity to lead fleet maintenance, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate shipyard activities. By supporting engineering operations and providing technical oversight, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the vessel fleet.
Responsibilities- Assist in overseeing the fleet’s maintenance programs to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Support dry dock and shipyard repair periods, coordinating repairs and inspections.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies such as USCG and ABS to ensure compliance with all maritime regulations.
- Manage preventative maintenance tracking systems, ensuring timely and effective service schedules.
- Assist in vendor management, repair coordination, and procurement activities.
- Serve as a licensed backup engineer when operational needs require additional support.
- Must be eligible to obtain a USCG Chief Engineer (Limited – Inland/Great Lakes) license within six months of hire; unlimited Chief Engineer license preferred.
- Strong candidates with Second Assistant Engineer experience and crossover eligibility are encouraged to apply.
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Ability to reside within commuting distance of Cape May, NJ.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and respond to operational demands.
- Prior sailing experience as a Chief or Senior Engineer.
- Shipyard project experience, showcasing your ability to manage repair and retrofit initiatives.
- Familiarity with ferry or passenger vessel operations.
- Thorough knowledge of USCG regulatory compliance processes.
- Experience with maintenance management software systems.
