Managing Consultant, Project Manager, Engineer/Geologist/Scientist
We are looking for a motivated, hands‑on Managing Consultant to join our Liability Portfolio Management & Remediation team in Ewing, NJ. The role is full‑time, mid‑senior level, and involves leading site investigation, risk assessment, and remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and state regulations across New Jersey and other U.S. and international locations. The successful candidate will manage projects, mentor staff, build client relationships, and contribute to business development.
Responsibilities- Perform and coordinate site investigation, utility location, risk assessment, and remediation of soil, groundwater, and sediments for clients in manufacturing, power, chemical, oil & gas, and technology sectors.
- Plan and coordinate field work including sampling, drilling, well installation, soil and groundwater assessment, vapor intrusion assessment, and high‑resolution site characterization.
- Design, install, and implement vapor intrusion investigations and remediation in commercial/industrial and residential settings.
- Review environmental data, evaluate QA/QC, develop conceptual site models, identify data gaps, and prepare or peer‑review work plans and reports; develop project scopes, schedules, costs, and health & safety plans under RCRA, CERCLA, and state programs.
- Support internal and external projects using new technologies to improve efficiency and quality, including electronic field data collection, management, and reporting.
- Evaluate remedial alternatives, assist clients in developing cost‑effective closure strategies, and negotiate with regulatory agencies.
- Design bench‑scale and pilot tests of remediation remedies for contaminated soil, groundwater, and sediments, monitoring and optimizing performance.
- Delegate assignments, mentor junior staff, and engage technical experts to deliver maximum value to clients.
- Prepare proposals, participate in business development, and maintain and grow client relationships to generate repeat business.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with ERM employees, clients, and subcontractors.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in engineering, geology, or a closely related discipline.
- For engineers and geologists, a Pennsylvania or New Jersey PE/PG, or ability to obtain one in the near future.
- 4–6 years (7–12 years preferred) of progressive project management and technical experience on moderate to complex site investigation/remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and state programs.
- Effective written and verbal communication, organization, and analytical skills; ERM may request a writing sample.
- Understanding of environmental data management using EQuIS is a plus.
- Environmental field work experience and 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established health and safety protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle; frequent travel to client sites.
- Ability to multi‑task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
