JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summer Camp Teachers work with all age groups (6-12) in the Summer Camp. Summer Camp Teachers are responsible for creating age-appropriate lessons within a defined curriculum area (art, science, movement, etc.) for each day of camp. Summer staff work together to share ideas and to work within the themes as described on the summer camp calendar. Within the group, each teacher is responsible for providing quality care and instruction for campers and in communicating with families.

Each Summer Teacher is expected to contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, open and honest.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Must be a certified teacher

-Must be able to differentiate lessons between various age groups to accommodate their varying needs.

-At least 5 years experience teaching children

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Classroom or Child-Centered Responsibilities:

-Summer Camp Program Planning:

• Prepare detailed lesson plans for each week's summer session with an appropriate balance of independent and teacher- directed activities, a broad range of experiences, and frequent opportunities for children to make choices about what they do.
• Assure that materials and equipment are available to support planned activities.
• Utilize camp counselors and guide them to make sure the setup and classroom activities run smoothly.
• Inventory, pack, and store all materials to be put in storage at the end of the camp term.
• Turn in weekly less plans to Camp Director. The lessons should be tied to week's theme.

-Educational Activities:

• Develop all aspects of program planning, implementation, within the guidelines of the philosophy of Kingsway's CER Summer Camp program. Follow developmentally appropriate practices and school regulations with regard to curriculum and electronic policies at all times.

-Physical Environment:

• Create a physical space that maximizes independence of children, provides a safe and stimulating environment, enables effective use of space, and provides an attractive and welcoming environment by:
• Organizing classroom space in a functional, clean, neat and attractive way that encourages children to use materials as independently as appropriate.
• Labeling projects for distribution to families so that it is clear to children and adults projects that belong to each child.
• Alerting Program Directors to any concerns about cleanliness, repairs, student or counselor conduct or safety.

-Health, & Safety:

• Enforce safety rules, intervene when children may injure themselves or others, and promptly alert the directors to any injury involving children or staff. Practice infection control principles (proper hand-washing, cleaning and sanitizing toys, tables, etc.).
• Report any and all behaviors and situations within the classroom that need to be addressed on a daily basis to the parents and camp directors.

Compensation: $30.00/hour
