Job Description

The Student Life Department Assistant is responsible for assisting the Director of Student Life in general administrative duties. The assistant will help implement, plan, and schedule events for students, student organizations, the college community and community outreach. The incumbent will create a warm and welcoming environment by greeting and assisting students and visitors at the front desk and keeping the office running smoothly through a variety of secretarial and administrative support activities.

Duties
  • Coordinate day‑to‑day needs of events in the Bateman Center for Student Life and Leadership.
  • Maintain and assist in the creation of Office® Forms necessary for the management of clubs and organizations.
  • Assist student organizations with event planning and organization.
  • Coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Act as a resource person for internal and external inquiries related to the Office of Student Life, directing students, college personnel, and community members to appropriate resources or services when necessary.
  • Understand and regularly clarify and explain office policies and procedures to students and employees.
  • Recognize and create opportunities for student volunteers, club members, and integration of Student Life.
  • Assist with the implementation and execution of club events and activities such as Weeks of Welcome Activities, college trips, induction ceremonies, leadership awards, and other campus‑wide events as needed.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining online information and resources for Student Life and all student organizations, including the RV Commons, RVConnect, and Office® Forms.
  • Assist with the day‑to‑day operation of the Ray Bateman Center for Student Life and Leadership.
  • Assist in encouraging and maintaining enthusiasm, commitment, and teamwork in Student Life.
  • Assist with the organization and daily functioning of Student Life.
Requirements
  • 1–2 years of related work experience in planning and program development in an academic setting.
  • Experience with computer systems, software applications and social media (e.g., Publisher, MS Word, Access, Excel, graphics software).
  • High degree of reliability and flexibility, with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend programs as necessary.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of office management.
  • Ability to simultaneously work on a variety of projects, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing goals and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to create and manage forms, reports, webpages, etc.
  • Ability to monitor and track online reports and forms through the current RVCC Content Management System.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with student organizations, faculty and staff, and external vendors.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, preferred.
  • 3–5 years of related work experience in planning and program development in an academic setting.
  • Experience with PowerPoint and SharePoint a plus.
