Overview

Collier Youth Services, located in Wickatunk, NJ is seeking to hire an assistant controller. Collier is a well-established (approaching 100 years in 2027) non-profit in Monmouth County that serves youth from throughout the state.

Job Summary

The Assistant Controller will apply principles of accounting to maintain, prepare, and analyze financial information and reports, while also supporting day-to-day departmental operations such as data entry, filing, audit preparation, and handling school lunch balances. This is a hands-on position in a very small department and requires both technical expertise and a willingness to “roll up sleeves” and assist with a wide range of tasks.

The role is non-supervisory but integral to ensuring smooth fiscal operations.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Assists Foundation in data input into Raiser’s Edge software.
  • Prepares year-end 1099-Misc. filings.
  • Assists with special projects, as required.
  • Assists in monthly and annual closings.
  • Assists in the annual budgeting process for all Agency programs and Collier Foundation.
  • Assists in preparation for the annual audit for both the Agency and the Foundation, including pulling files and preparing copies.
  • Performs data entry and maintains accurate financial records.
  • Handles departmental filing and record organization.
  • Monitors and reconciles school lunch balances.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Maintains agency adherence to confidentiality and FERPA requirements.
  • Provides general clerical and operational support as needed to ensure smooth departmental function.
  • Completes other projects or tasks as assigned by management.
Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of FE NXT Accounting Software and RE NXT a plus.
  • Experience with ADP software.
  • Knowledge of APSSD (Approved Private Schools for Students with Disabilities) school accounting a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform both high-level accounting functions and routine clerical duties.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of cultural competence, according to our philosophy, mission, and values.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, work ethic, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Must be a team player and project sensitivity, compassion, and respect to all individuals.
  • Must be able to maintain professional boundaries, code of ethics, and follow all policies and procedures.
Education/Experience
  • At least five years related accounting experience and/or training is required
  • Experience working with ADP software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google G-Suite, Accounting Software (i.e. Blackbaud, People Soft, Sage, etc)
  • Satisfactorily pass Criminal History, Fingerprints, TB Screening, physical, CARI and/or Sexual Misconduct and Child Abuse Disclosure
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
