Overview
Under the guidance of the recreation facilities supervisor and assistant manager, swim instructors provide swimming instruction in a safe, positive environment.
- Develop class curriculum.
- Teach swimming lessons.
- Report classes to the Red Cross
- Assist with tasks in other departments as needed.
- Maintain positive public relations, and enthusiastically support the New Hope Parks and Recreation Department.
Skills and Abilities
- General knowledge of aquatic facilities.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Water safety instruction knowledge.
- The candidate must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must have water safety instructor’s certification.
- Ability to follow written and oral direction.
- Ability to work mornings, evenings and weekends.

Physical RequirementsThis work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception;
vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; working in high, precarious places and exposure to outdoor weather conditions;
work is generally in a moderately noisy location.
Ability to pass a BCA background check.
