Position: Director of Unit Based Services

Full-Time | Exempt | $95,000–$115,000 + 15% Annual Incentive

About

The Role

The Director of Unit Based Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all Unit Based programs. This role manages a multidisciplinary team—including Designated Managers, Coordinators, Mental Health Specialists, and Direct Support Professionals—while ensuring regulatory compliance, financial performance, and continuous quality improvement.

You will lead new service line development, strengthen community partnerships, and champion a culture of accountability, learning, and person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop short-, mid-, and long-term growth plans for Unit Based Services.
  • Evaluate new service opportunities and ensure alignment with Bright Path’s mission.
  • Partner with DHS and leadership to secure licensure for new offerings.
  • Assess client needs and design programming to meet them.
  • Ensure compliance with DHS, MN Department of Health, HCBS settings rules, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives, program evaluations, and corrective action processes.
  • Oversee policy development, program design, and ongoing improvement planning.
  • Oversee P&L performance, budgeting, rate management, and financial metrics.
  • Drive fiscal integrity through monthly reporting and variance analysis.
  • Promote standardization, efficiency, and process improvement across all sites.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop managers and operational staff.
  • Ensure effective onboarding, training, and competency development.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and growth-oriented work environment.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in health or human services.
  • 5+ years of program management in Unit Based and Residential services for vulnerable adults.
  • Strong knowledge of Minnesota DHS, MN Department of Health, and HCBS setting rules.
  • Meets 245D Designated Manager qualifications, including:
    • Relevant degree or training (per 245D requirements).
    • 1–4 years of direct care experience depending on education level.
    • 3+ years supervisory experience in disability or aging services.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals with extraordinary needs or crisis situations.
  • Project management experience (PMP, CAPM, or CPPM a plus).
  • Strong skills in problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

Working Conditions
  • Office-based with travel between Twin Cities program sites.
  • Requires occasional after-hours availability for emergencies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform standard physical movements related to site visits.
