About the role

D-Wave isseekingan experienced and detail-oriented QEC Software Engineer to co-design,validate, and test infrastructure for QEC. In addition, the selected candidate will also perform simulations and resource estimation for practical applications withstate‑of‑the‑artfault‑tolerant implementations.

What you'll do
  • Collaborate with physicists and other QEC specialists to develop, simulate, and experimentally validate QEC codes
  • Implement robust software components, integrate them into D-Wave’s software stack, and write comprehensive tests
  • Work with stakeholders on both near- and long-term quantum computing applications including error correction resource estimation for practical problems
  • Write clean, well‑documented code and conduct thorough code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability
  • Provide software mentorship and guidance on best practices and help drive adherence to software best practices
About You
  • MS or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with a specialization in quantum computing
  • 5+ years of hands‑on software development experience with C, C++, Python, or another general‑purpose compiled programming language
  • 3+ Quantum computing or quantum information experience including at least one modern quantum SDK such as Qiskit, Q#, CUDA‑Q, or Stim
  • Competence with Git version control, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Use of software testing principles and practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and end‑to‑end testing
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, math, physics, or chemistry
  • 7+ years of hands‑on software development experience with C, C++, Python, or another general‑purpose compiled programming language
  • 5+ years of quantum computing industry experience
  • High‑impact publications in QEC
  • Experience programming in a lower‑level language like Rust or C++
  • Experience with surface code implementations and simulation
  • Experience with quantum error correction decoder algorithms
  • Experience with lattice surgery and magic state preparation
  • Experience working with users exploring error correction resource estimation or early fault‑tolerant quantum algorithms
  • Experience with intermediate representations, particularly QIR
  • Experience in conversion from classical to quantum algorithmic solutions (e.g., applying QNNs, implementing quantum algorithms for computational chemistry simulations, or solving optimization problems with hybrid quantum algorithms)
