SUMMARYThe Peer Support Specialist serves as a member of a collaborative, recovery‑oriented, evidence‑based integrated employment service. They work collaboratively with clinical staff, Employment Specialists, and consumer groups. They carry out duties that support the development and implementation of employment strategies and peer support within a person‑centered Recovery Plan. They follow the rules and procedures of the Connecticut Mental Health Center and any other assigned sites, adhering to all policies and procedures for professional services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists Employment staff in providing support to a caseload of individuals requesting employment support services with reengagement or motivation to engage back into services
- Assists Employment staff in maintaining comprehensive vocational case records for individuals on caseload.
- Conducts job clubs and peer support groups and activities.
- Educates other team members on employment principles to facilitate an integrated approach to employment outcomes.
- Assists Employment staff in conducting employment related assessment activities to generate recommendations for job placement.
- Assists in the implementation of recovery plans to assure attention to dimensions of recovery, cultural competence and evidence‑based practices.
- Communicates with employment team daily through telephone, voice mail, text and/or written communication.
- Assures that services are provided in accordance with evidence‑based practices for supported employment, recovery, dual diagnosis, engagement, etc. as well as promising practices with regard to Peer Mentoring.
- Facilitates, promotes and ensures community integration and the realization of valued social roles.
- Demonstrates and implements incidental teaching.
- Facilitates teamwork in implementing individual recovery and employment goals.
- If applicable, operates motor vehicles safely and in accordance with State Law (agency and personal automobiles) while on work related duties as appropriate.
Due to the fact that the main goal of this position is to provide the highest level of resource to our participants, the Peer Specialist position is expressly for individuals who are or who have been participants of the mental health service system, and who have displayed the ability to tap into various community resources. They may not be receiving services from the CT Mental Health Center.
Experience in negotiating the network of behavioral health services is required. Leadership experience and employment experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required.
