Position Overview
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Neurosurgery Spine (Ambulatory & OR Support)
Full-time, permanent position
Based at 20 York Street, New Haven, CT, with support across multiple outpatient clinic locations
Role Summary
Join a high-volume neurosurgery spine practice providing both ambulatory and operating room support
Work closely with a neurosurgery spine surgeon in a fast-paced, collaborative clinical environment
Deliver comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care
Schedule & Work Environment
Monday-Friday schedule
No weekends
No holidays
No on-call responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Support high-volume ambulatory neurosurgery spine clinics across multiple sites
Provide intraoperative support for neurosurgery spine procedures
Manage pre- and post-operative patient care, including evaluations, follow-ups, and coordination of care
Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Qualifications
NP or PA license/credentialing as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care:
The Physician Assistant (PA) or the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP/PA collaborates with the attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, protocols and clinical pathways and may provide autonomous team-based care. Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews/orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, formulates and manages patient treatment plans.
The NP/PA may perform procedures, prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines, as well as, when necessary for scope within specialty or professional competency standards. In some clinical specialties, the NP/PA may have autonomous practice managing certain patient populations. The NP/PA may also function as first or second assistant on operative cases (as long as within position scope and prerequisites), using fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
Other clinical duties may be applied per departmental and operational goals, training related to profession and practice necessitated guidelines and responsibilities, inclusive but not limited to responding to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.2. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support:
The NP/PA will educate patients/families on care and resources. In collaboration with the supervising/collaborating MD, this may include admitting instructions, treatment plan, side effects of treatments/medications, and discharge plan. The NP/PA provides psychosocial support to patients, family members, and significant others in a caring, ethical, and professional manner.3. Information Management:
