OverviewThe Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP), a collaborative initiative between Yale Law School and the Yale School of the Environment, pioneers innovative and analytically rigorous approaches to environmental decision‑making across disciplines and scales. Beyond conducting cutting‑edge research, the Center serves as a vibrant hub for fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration on environmental law and policy issues—from local to global contexts—across the Yale campus.
YCELP seeks a professional looking to help advance this agenda and shape the future of environmental law and policy through groundbreaking research, meaningful collaborations, and transformative opportunities. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the programmatic administration and operations of the Center, including program development, project management, communications, supervision of the research teams, facilities, information systems, administrative activities, and the development of a long‑term sustainability plan.
The chosen candidate will work with the Faculty Director of the Center to provide substantial research, writing, and program support for his research, teaching, writing, and public engagement. The candidate must be able to succeed in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and a keen interest in environmental law and policy.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the advancement and growth of the program. Give direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives.
- Assume primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program.
- Work closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
- Identify, solicit, and cultivate community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program.
- Develop metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contribute to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications.
- Develop and manage the program’s operating budget.
- Develop the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manage human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted.
- Oversee and manage information systems, facilities, and space needs.
- Investigate, identify, implement, and oversee the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program.
- Track all program activities and regularly inform leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommend structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives.
- Initiate, design, and manage the compilation of program communications; identify outreach potential, and promote philanthropic and collaborative support of the program.
- Contribute to the development and assist in the management of content on the program’s website and monitor all changes and additions to the editorial content.
