The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut is seeking applications for an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Criminal Division.
The Criminal Division in the District of Connecticut consists of three units. The Major Crimes and National Security Unit is responsible for prosecuting matters involving immigration, human trafficking, civil rights, government program fraud, and environmental crimes, as well as matters involving international and domestic terrorism, and cybercrime. The Violent Crimes and Narcotics Unit includes the District's Homeland Security Task Force, Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) prosecutions, and violent crime, gangs, and narcotics investigations.
Finally, the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption Unit includes securities and investor fraud, public corruption, bank fraud and embezzlement, mortgage fraud, tax fraud, health care fraud, bankruptcy fraud and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Security Requirements:
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Residency Requirements:
Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
Selective Service:
If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law. See (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should have excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong character, dedication, work ethic, and the ability to work well with others and independently.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Proof of active bar membership is required.
You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Salary Information:
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is:
* New Haven, CT: $90,444 to $197,100 which includes 37.95% locality pay.
* Bridgeport, CT: $90,444 to $197,100 which includes 37.95% locality pay.
* Hartford, CT: $86,596 to $197,100 which includes 32.08% locality pay.
