Come join Patient Billing Solutions | Inbox Health!

Company Overview

At Inbox Health, we’re redefining how patients pay for healthcare by turning a frustrating, opaque process into a clear, supportive experience. The Inbox Health platform has already helped over 20 million patients better understand and manage their medical bills while enabling more than 3,000 healthcare providers and billers to collect over $1 billion in revenue.

Role Overview

Inbox Health’s UX team designs tools that help medical practices manage patient billing, payments, and front-office operations. We work in hypothesis-driven discovery sprints: interviewing clients, analyzing call transcripts, reviewing behavioral data, and translating findings into interactive prototypes.

This internship puts you in the middle of that cycle. You’ll conduct client research, design solutions informed by what you learn, and present recommendations to stakeholders. You’ll collaborate with product management, client success, and engineering throughout.

Internship Objectives

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to:

  • Deliver client workflow blueprints documenting end-to-end processes for 3-5 client sites, synthesized into a cross-client pattern analysis
  • Validate product hypotheses through usability tests and client interviews that strengthen or challenge existing assumptions
  • Present findings and design concepts connecting research evidence to product opportunities
  • Produce reusable artifacts (blueprints, evidence tables, competitive analyses, design mockups, or process documentation) that remain valuable after the internship
  • Product walkthrough: learn Inbox Health’s platform, patient experience flows, and front-office tools
  • Review existing research documentation and competitive landscape
  • Shadow team meetings: sprint reviews, discovery syncs, client success calls
  • Review the Figma component library, design system, and existing prototypes to understand how designs translate to code
  • Set up tools:
Figma, Click Up, Confluence, Slack, Gong, Use Berry, Mixpanel, Hotjar, GA4
  • Define project scope and success criteria with supervisor
  • Client Research:
Shadow client success meetings and conduct discovery sessions to map end-to-end front-desk workflows
  • Evidence Gathering:
Document verbatim quotes, pain points, and workflow gaps using the team’s evidence table format
  • Hypothesis Validation:
Run usability tests (Use Berry or moderated sessions) on design hypotheses informed by research
  • Behavioral Analytics:
Analyze user behavior across Mixpanel, Hotjar, and GA4 to identify drop-off points and surface patterns that complement qualitative findings
  • Design Exploration in Figma:
Create wireframes, user flows, and concepts informed by research. Iterate from low-fidelity to mid-fidelity as hypotheses are validated.
  • LLM-Assisted Design and Research:
Use Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini across the full cycle: synthesize transcripts, draft evidence summaries, and explore design directions. Progressively introduce design-by-code workflows (generating HTML/CSS/React prototypes via LLMs) to speed up exploration and compress the gap between concept and engineering handoff. This advances based on the intern’s skill level, starting Figma-first and layering in code generation as comfort grows.
  • Industry & Competitive Teardowns:
Capture and annotate inspiration & competitor UI/UX flows for side‑by‑side comparison. Extend the existing competitive analysis with current market developments.
  • Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and feedback sessions
  • Finalize client blueprints and cross-client pattern synthesis. We will work together through multiple iterations with various stakeholders to polish the final product.
  • Polish design concepts in Figma (annotated wireframes or mid‑fidelity mockups) for design review
  • Create a presentation deck combining research evidence with design…
