Job Description

Duration: 6 months to start

The Business Systems Analyst will solicit, understand, and document business requirements, processes, and workflows, developing written and visual depictions of requirements and process flows. This includes interviewing stakeholders, evaluating business processes, gathering and compiling user requirements, and translating them into functional requirements for technology solutions with a focus on improving processes, enhancing sustainability, and delivering maximum return on investment. The analyst performs data analysis, data mapping, and data visualization, and collaborates with programming and architecture staff to design solutions based on functional requirements, including conducting gap analysis.

The analyst must understand business, functional, and technical aspects of business processes and the systems used within the portfolio, including integration points and impacts on other business units and systems.

Core Responsibilities
  • Evaluate business processes to anticipate requirements, uncover improvement opportunities, and elicit change requirements.
  • Conduct interviews to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.
  • Gather and analyze data to develop business requirements and identify priorities and recommended timelines.
  • Perform data mapping and data analysis, and create data mapping and visualization documents.
  • Prepare business cases defining potential benefits, options for achieving benefits, associated business risks, and timelines.
  • Interpret user requirements into feasible options and communicate results to business stakeholders.
  • Deliver precise functional specifications including hierarchy, workflow, business rules, interface design, outstanding issues, data analysis, and mapping to clients and development staff.
  • Conduct gap analysis between application and customer requirements, collaborating with architects and developers to estimate project impact.
  • Prepare effort estimates, researching and estimating costs of upgrades and vendor package relevance.
  • Evaluate vendor product release notes, determine impact on current processes, and assist in redesign and documentation for enhancements.
  • Document and communicate requirements analysis results.
  • Translate business requirements into clear functional requirements understandable by developers, project teams, and business owners.
  • Participate in technical design of solutions with programmers, solution architects, and other team members.
  • Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformance to standards.
  • Develop and utilize standard templates for concise requirement specifications.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide developers and project teams.
  • Conduct peer reviews of requirements to ensure accurate interpretation.
  • Select, adopt, and adapt appropriate business analysis methods, tools, and techniques, choosing between predictive and adaptive approaches.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, conducting investigations for strategy studies, requirements specifications, and feasibility studies.
  • Provide leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior staff; offer technical guidance to team members.
  • Analyze incidents and problems, providing clear analysis and business impact results.
  • Assist business analysts and test analysts as necessary.
  • Perform on‑call and/or after‑hours work as required.

Skill Qualifications Required
  • Experience with life, annuity, and universal life (UL) products.
  • Experience working with IT development staff on complex projects.
  • Strong technical background and ability to analyze and understand the technical aspects of underlying systems.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to support deadlines.
