OverviewThe Business Systems Analyst will solicit, understand, and document the business requirements, processes and workflows, developing both written and visual depictions of requirements and process flows. This includes understanding, documenting, and evaluating business processes through interviewing stakeholders. The analyst elicits, gathers, compiles, and documents user requirements and translates them into functional requirements for technology solutions, aiming to improve processes, enhance sustainability, and deliver maximum return on investment.
Responsibilities include data analysis, data mapping, data visualization, gap analysis, and collaboration with programming, architecture, and development staff.
- Conduct data gathering and analysis to develop business requirements and assist in identifying business priorities and recommended timelines.
- Perform data mapping and data visualization; create corresponding documents.
- Prepare business cases that define potential benefits and options for achieving these benefits through development of new or changed processes, and assess associated business risks.
- Interpret user requirements into feasible options and communicate results to business stakeholders.
- Deliver precise functional specifications to include functional hierarchy, workflow, business rules, interface design, data analysis, and mapping.
- Conduct gap analysis and collaborate with Architects and Developers to estimate project impact.
- Prepare effort estimation, including researching and estimating costs of upgrades and relevant vendor packages.
- Evaluate vendor product release notes for impact on current processes and assist in business process redesign and documentation.
- Perform requirements analysis; document and communicate results.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications for developers and project teams.
- Participate in technical design of solutions with programmers, solution architects, and team members.
- Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformance to standards.
- Develop and utilize standard templates to write concise requirement specifications.
- Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide development and project teams.
- Conduct peer reviews of business requirements to ensure correct interpretation.
- Select, adopt, and adapt appropriate business analysis methods, tools, and techniques.
- Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels for investigations, strategy studies, and feasibility studies.
- Triage and analyze incidents and problems, providing clear analysis results and business impact.
- Assist business and test analysts as needed; on‑call and/or after‑hours work required.
- Experience working with IT development staff.
- Strong technical background.
- Strong data analysis and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team to meet deadlines.
- Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
- Fundamental analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user‑friendly language.
- Exceptional analytical and statistical skills with application to systems issues and products.
- Experience in Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid environments.
- Technical understanding of digital platforms, cloud applications, web services, server‑side components, and APIs.
- Competency in Microsoft applications; advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros.
- Data analysis skills including intermediate to advanced SQL queries.
- Experience in scripting.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Visio, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; advanced Excel skills as above.
- Understanding of REST & SOAP Web Services and how to use SoapUI, REST API clients.
- Required:
- BS or BA with emphasis in computer science, information systems or business administration.
- 3+ years of related work experience.
- Preferred:
- Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) and/or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a majority of the workday.
