Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory testing in an accurate and timely fashion by utilizing technical and problem-solving skills in conjunction with a thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory principles. Maintains effective communications and transfers testing and pending follow-ups between employees and shifts following all CHAMP and HRO standards. Maintains all Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards at all times. Maintains operational effectiveness and assumes full responsibility for continuing education requirements, licensure, and expertise to adapt as needed to an expanding department with increased testing complexity.

Responsibilities- Understanding and adhering to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrating technical competency by performing a wide variety of laboratory techniques, including moderate to highly complex tests.
- Operating instrumentation and/or assigned benches independently with sufficient knowledge and skills.
- Operating all department equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting instrument failures.
- Performing tasks that assist with the overall operation of laboratory services according to laboratory policies and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Assisting with training new employees.
- Assisting with specimen processing as needed.
- Assisting with inventory management/control.
- Meeting continuing education requirements.
- Participating in activities that demonstrate professionalism, a commitment to competency and career growth.
- Performing a variety of routine tests and procedures, instrument maintenance procedures, and routine quality control procedures.
- Performing other duties as assigned to assure efficient operations of the department, including covering other lab sections.
Education
BS Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or equivalent ASCP eligible or equivalent

Physical Demand
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
They are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be tested for colorblindness and be able to make necessary accommodations to perform testing accurately.
