Responsibilities and accountabilities are held on a 24/7 basis. The Nursing strategic framework will be utilized, incorporating transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, innovation, and continuous improvement. The assistant manager collaborates with the manager for consistent communication.

• Patient Flow:
  Serve as the clinical leader in collaboration with charge nurse, bed management, medical teams, and ancillary services to ensure safe patient flow across all care settings, facilitating the right patient in the right bed or type of service at the right time.
  • Shares accountability for safe, effective, high‑quality care and optimal outcomes in the patient care unit/department.
• Staffing and Effectiveness:
  Accountable to ensure safe staffing levels and clinical competence for excellent nursing care across the unit, clinic, or non‑inpatient area.
  • Provides direct patient care as required to maintain appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
• Financial Performance:
  Participate in unit strategies to support the financial well‑being of the organization and how day‑to‑day clinical operations impact the overall financial state of YNHH.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of financial forecasts related to organizational mission, vision, values, and the strategic business plan.
• Quality and Safety: A key leader who role‑models and supports excellence in clinical practice, promoting a culture of safe, high‑quality care on the unit/department.
  • Ensures unit/area visibility through regular patient, staff, and leader rounding.
• Service Excellence:
  Ensures delivery of Patient and Family‑Centered Care (PFCC) at YNHH, applying the four principles of PFCC:
  Participation, Dignity and Respect, Information Sharing, and Collaboration.
  • Identifies and analyzes trends in service excellence, ensuring staff accountability for adherence to YNHH Service Excellence standards.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred). One degree must be in nursing.

Experience

• Two years of clinical nursing experience and a minimum of one year of leadership/supervisory experience (e.g., committee voting, charge nurse role, project management). Demonstrated leadership qualities are required.

Licensure

• Current CT state RN licensure or eligibility for CT state RN licensure required. Specialty certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 18 months of hire.

• Ability to direct a diverse workforce in a 24‑hour operational environment. Passion for leading others in a challenging and changing environment, utilizing innovation, technology, and best practices.
