Recovery Support Specialist II – Full‑time, 40 hrs. (Tuesday – Saturday, 7 pm – 3 am) – Compass
Scope of Service:
The Recovery Support Specialist II (RSS‑II) provides comprehensive community‑based residential and support services to persons with mental health, intellectual, and addiction needs. They deliver hands‑on, intensive skill‑building interventions and support to enrich and achieve an overall level of independence and well‑being. The RSS‑II collaborates with Community Support Specialists/Case Managers and the program to support individuals in achieving aspirations through person‑centered, strengths‑based, and culturally competent methods.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in dual supervision between site supervisor and Continuum South‑Central Peer Services Manager.
- Establish rapport and working relationships with clients.
- Serve as a mentor, providing an invaluable role by teaching, role‑modeling, and prompting to enhance strengths and build upon skill deficits.
- Provide face‑to‑face, hands‑on supportive assistance to help clients maintain community living.
- Promote clients’ strengths and abilities to improve socialization, recovery, self‑advocacy, development of natural supports, and maintenance of community living skills.
- Provide supportive companionship and problem‑solving discussions.
- Engage clients in routine medical, social, wellness, and other community appointments as part of their recovery.
- Assist clients in achieving aspirations and goals, and participate in recovery planning as indicated in their Care plan.
- Develop individual recovery and/or wellness plans as indicated.
- Help clients access community resources, travel planning, and transportation efforts.
- Attend and participate in identified collaborative team and external community meetings.
- Facilitate/co‑facilitate psycho‑educational groups as indicated.
- Maintain client records and reporting documentation as indicated by the agency.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff and supervision meetings.
- Conduct regular apartment/house inspections and support clients in maintaining overall cleanliness.
- Coach and mentor RSS interns during practicum placements.
- Mentor and serve as a lead RSS in programs where more than one RSS is present.
- Co‑facilitate RSS self‑care and supervision groups as indicated.
- Provide support and accountability during fidelity, quality, and licensing reviews.
- Maintain a clean, well‑organized work environment; report environmental concerns.
- Participate in upkeep and sanitation of common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.
- Participate in Food Bank activities as assigned and applicable.
- Participate in property upkeep and general office maintenance that supports workplace safety.
- Complete other designated environmental tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to policies and practices as outlined in the staff handbook and program operations manual.
- Consistently work in a respectful, constructive, and cooperative manner.
- Uphold HIPAA regulations and secure all necessary releases of information for outside communication.
- Model culturally competent behavior interacting with clients, providers, and fellow staff.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and case files in accordance with programming, contractual, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
- Adhere to CARF standards.
- Participate in agency committee work when available or as permitted.
- Complete all trainings as required per program contract and agency policy.
- Attend agency‑sponsored in‑services, outside trainings, conferences, and meetings.
- Continuously seek professional growth and ensure quality case‑management practices.
- Associate’s degree or 60 credits toward a bachelor’s degree preferred, with a minimum of one year employed as a Recovery Support Specialist I.
- High school diploma or equivalent considered if accompanied by a CT Recovery University Certification and a minimum of three years’ experience in a related behavioral health field.
- First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire; ongoing certification required.
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s license and willingness to transport clients using personal vehicles; reliable transportation and minimum required CT State automobile liability insurance required.
- Proficient computer skills required, including Microsoft Office and electronic record‑keeping.
