Responsibilities
  • Clinical:
    Able to interpret physician referrals to perform basic clinical evaluations.
  • Comprehensive Patient Care:
    Utilizes assistants and support staff appropriately and safely in the delivery of patient care.
  • Clinical Supervision:
    Appropriately delegates responsibility to therapy assistants, clinical students, and support staff, and maintains an appropriate and compliant level of clinical supervision and documentation review/co-signature.
  • Documentation:
    Maintains concise and accurate patient care documentation and billing in accordance with system, hospital, and department policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Education:

    Participates in professional development, attends department in‑services, and seeks opportunities to expand knowledge of the profession and related fields.
  • Administration:
    Uses equipment in a safe and effective manner, reports malfunctioning or missing equipment, and takes corrective action to remove equipment from use.
Qualifications

Education
Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathology program or equivalent and M.S. degree.

Experience
No experience required. 1–2 years in an academic/large medical center based practice preferred. Experience with children and/or adults depending on the assigned setting. Clinical experience with post‑surgical, developmental, neurological, genetic, oncologic, and traumatic diagnoses.

Licensure
Current unencumbered license or temporary permit to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist in CT. Current BLS certification or obtain within two months of hire. Membership in ASHA required.

Special Skills
Age‑specific knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology, psychology, and SLP theory, evaluations, and treatment techniques for diverse patients. Observation and communication skills, and teamwork essential. Willingness to assume increased responsibilities. Experience with FEES, MBS, and TEP preferred.

Physical Demand
May require exposure to blood and body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases; requires long periods of standing, walking, lifting, and repeated motions. Must be able to operate various equipment, including whirlpools, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. May need to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, or 20 lbs. constantly. Functions with or without accommodations as determined.
