Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory testing in an accurate and timely fashion by utilizing technical and problem-solving skills in conjunction with a thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory principles. Maintains effective communications and transfers testing and pending follow-ups between employees and shifts following all CHAMP and HRO standards. Maintains all Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards at all times. Maintains operational effectiveness and assumes full responsibility for continuing education requirements, licensure, and expertise to adapt as needed to an expanding department with increased testing complexity.

Responsibilities
- Adheres to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs a wide variety of laboratory techniques, including moderate to highly complex tests.
- Operates instrumentation and/or assigned benches independently.
- Operates all department equipment safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots instrument failures.
- Assists with overall operation of laboratory service according to policies and regulatory guidelines.
- May assist with training new employees.
- Assists with specimen processing as needed.
- Assists with inventory management/control.
- Meets continuing education requirements.
- Participates in activities that demonstrate professionalism and commitment to career growth.
- Performs routine tests, procedures, instrument maintenance, and quality control.
- Performs other duties as assigned to assure efficient operations of the department, including covering other lab sections.
Qualifications
Education: BS Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or equivalent ASCP eligible or equivalent
Experience: 0-2 years
License: ASCP eligible

Physical Demand
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required. The employee may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be tested for color blindness and able to make necessary accommodations for disabled applicants to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
