Financial Manager
Position Focus
Reporting to the Director of Operations FP&A, this senior role leads all FP&A activities across multiple Operations units. The Director serves as a senior strategic partner to unit leadership, providing financial insight and guidance, managing long‑range financial plans, annual budgets, forecasts, capital planning, executive financial reviews, and leading a team of financial analysts.
Principal Responsibilities- Serve as chief financial steward for planning units.
- Provide in‑depth and comprehensive financial analysis and advice.
- Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term strategic financial plans that align with departmental goals to support fiscal growth and sustainability.
- Lead financial forecasting and budgeting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and realistic projections; analyze performance against budget and act as needed.
- Manage organizational and programmatic budgets.
- Lead presentations in the annual University Budget Advisory Group.
- Partner with unit leadership on financial planning for capital projects.
- Submit budgets in YBT and prepare unit narratives.
- Oversee preparation and presentation of accurate, timely, and comprehensive financial reports.
- Conduct thorough financial analysis identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Implement strategies to enhance financial performance.
- Serve as a member of executive senior staff and provide financial counsel to senior leaders.
- Manage information systems and regulatory compliance.
- Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to the finance team.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and supporting strategic decision‑making through financial insight and analysis.
- Proven ability to lead complex budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes in a decentralized environment.
- Advanced analytical, communication, and presentation skills, conveying complex financial data to diverse audiences.
- Ability to lead and collaborate with cross‑functional teams, manage competing priorities, and build trust‑based relationships with senior leaders.
- Self‑directed, deadline‑driven, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and ten years progressively responsible experience, five of which are in a leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PreferredEducation and Experience
Ten years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including at least five years in a leadership role within FP&A, strategic finance, or higher education financial planning; strong background in financial reporting and presentation of financial results; master’s degree and experience in higher education.
