Overview

The Assistant Director of Post Award Finance at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) plays a crucial role in supervising the financial aspects of clinical trials. This position oversees the Sponsor Invoicing and Billing and Coding Teams, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accuracy in all post-award financial activities. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing workflows, process documentation, and implementing change management strategies to support evolving operational demands.

This role also focuses on staff development, performance evaluation, and maintaining high standards of financial integrity. The Assistant Director collaborates with various departments to ensure cohesive and effective financial operations, contributing to YSM’s commitment to excellence in clinical research.

The Assistant Director of Post Award Finance will provide direct oversight to the Sponsor Invoicing and Billing and Coding Teams, ensuring that all post-award financial processes are executed efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position is pivotal in managing the financial operations related to clinical trials, facilitating seamless invoicing, coding, and billing activities. The role demands a strategic approach to change management, as the Assistant Director will be integral in adapting to the increasing complexity of clinical trial finances, especially with the future integration of USP Rate experts.

Key responsibilities include streamlining workflow, enhancing process documentation, and providing guidance and support for staff career progression. This role is designed to meet the evolving needs of the department and ensure the continued success of YSM’s clinical research financial operations.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision to the Sponsor Invoicing and Billing and Coding Teams, ensuring efficient and compliant post-award financial operations.
  • Oversee and streamline workflows and process documentation to maintain high standards of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement effective change management strategies.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate career development for team members.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure cohesive financial operations and address any cross-functional issues.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks related to financial operations, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including sponsors, regulatory bodies, and internal departments.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to senior management, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead initiatives to improve financial processes and enhance the overall efficiency of the Post Award Finance teams.
  • Ensure the continued success and compliance of YSM’s clinical research financial operations through effective leadership and strategic planning.
Required

Skills And Abilities
  • Proven experience in managing financial operations related to clinical trials, including invoicing, billing, and coding, along with proficiency in financial software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including the demonstrated ability to lead teams, focusing on staff development, performance evaluation, process improvement, and effective change management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in a clinical research environment, with experience in developing and maintaining process documentation and workflow management.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; detail-oriented and capable of managing and prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
