We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead and strengthen financial operations within a dynamic public-sector organization.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a proven finance professional with strong municipal or government accounting experience who is ready to drive fiscal integrity, operational excellence, and strategic financial planning.
What You’ll DoAs Director of Finance, you will serve as a key strategic advisor and operational leader, responsible for the oversight and execution of all financial functions, including:
- Leading comprehensive government accounting operations in accordance with GASB standards and public-sector regulations
- Overseeing budget development, financial forecasting, and long-term fiscal planning
- Managing general ledger, financial reporting, audits, treasury, and internal controls
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Supervising and developing a high-performing finance team
- Presenting financial reports and recommendations to executive leadership and governing bodies
- Driving process improvements and financial system optimization
- Partnering cross-functionally with department leaders to support strategic initiatives and funding decisions
Government accounting experience is required.
The ideal candidate brings:
- Extensive experience in municipal or public-sector finance leadership
- Deep knowledge of government fund accounting, GASB standards, and regulatory compliance
- Proven success managing audits, financial reporting, and complex budget processes
- Strong internal controls expertise and risk management experience
- Advanced financial systems proficiency and strong Excel capabilities
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and mentoring finance teams
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information for non-financial stakeholders
- Strategic mindset with hands-on execution capability
A CPA or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Public Administration is strongly preferred.
