Summer Springboard (SSB) is recruiting an innovative and dynamic instructor to deliver a hands‑on Aerospace Engineering course for high school students in our pre‑college summer program at Yale.
This course introduces students to the principles of flight, spacecraft design, and aerospace systems. Students will explore aerodynamics, propulsion systems, orbital mechanics, aircraft structures, and flight controls through hands‑on projects and simulations. The course covers both aeronautical (aircraft) and astronautical (spacecraft) engineering, including topics like lift and drag forces, rocket propulsion, satellite technology, and avionics. Students will design, build, and test model aircraft or rockets, use flight simulators, analyze aerospace materials, and explore career paths from commercial aviation to space exploration.
Curriculum& Qualifications
A comprehensive curriculum will be provided focusing on aerospace engineering fundamentals. The ideal candidate is an aerospace engineer, mechanical engineer with aerospace experience, aerospace graduate student, or aviation professional with technical expertise in aircraft or spacecraft systems.
Schedule- Dates:
June 22‑26, 2026;
July 6‑10, 2026;
July 20‑24, 2026 (three 1‑week sessions; approx 27 hours per week) - Time: 9:00 am – 1:15 pm daily instruction; 3:00 – 5:00 pm labs, guest speakers, and academic excursions

Yale University campus, New Haven, CT
Using your professional network and contacts, you will work together with SSB to arrange visits to aerospace companies, aviation facilities, or aviation museums in the Connecticut/New England area, or invite guest speakers from the aerospace industry. The course will culminate in students launching model rockets or presenting aircraft/spacecraft designs they've developed.
