Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to drive and coordinate the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the US Northeast region. The position can be based in one of our larger offices in the region and will report to the regional HSSE Manager.

This is a full-time position, and work hours will reflect the requirements of the geography. Up to 20% travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and support to operations and office staff to be compliant with Stantec’s HSSE systems and framework as well as local legislation.
  • Track, trend, and manage incident response and lessons learned related to office, vehicle, and ergonomic incidents.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture including engaging team members around leading indicators.
  • Using the HSSE KPI Dashboard, drive successful organizational outcomes through corrective action closure tracking, training compliance tracking, leading indicator participation tracking and regulatory calendar compliance within the region.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to local office coordinators as it relates to facility, shop, and lab safety.
  • Promote Safer Together culture development in the region and during newly acquired organization integration.
  • Assist with regional ISO (International Standards Organization) 14001 and 45001 audits.
  • Collaborate with our global security team to advise local office leaders of physical security expectations and best practices.
  • Support the continuous improvement of HSSE training and Stantec’s Health and Safety Management system.
  • Provide coaching, advice, and directions to staff and leadership on HSSE as it pertains to the variety of services provided in the region.
  • Apply practical knowledge and experience to solve HSSE problems related to areas within their operational control.
  • Support operations to effectively use Stantec’s HSSE systems including our OHS management system, learning management system, HSSE dashboards, and related digital tools.
  • Provide virtual and virtual live training on HSSE topics such as HSSE orientation, blood borne pathogen, and SIF prevention as assigned.
  • Assist in the development of HSSE communications materials.
  • Approximately 20% of this role also provides dotted line support to several key projects which may require:
    Assisting with project pre-job planning and hazard assessments for construction field activities;
    Conducting field assessments such as planned job observations and worksite inspections with leadership;
    Leading site induction or tailgate safety meetings;
    Initiating injury notification processes and briefing leadership;
    Assisting in integrating Stantec’s HSSE management system with client systems where required;
    Reviewing contractor safety submittals;
    Providing advice on development and implementation of HSSE programs on complex capital improvement projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Professional safety certification will be considered an asset but is not required. Preferred certifications include: CSP, ASP, GSP, OHST or CHST.
  • Experience in HSSE related to field or construction operations.
  • Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Capable of delivering, preparing, and presenting to small and large groups.
  • A willingness to work in a team atmosphere across borders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Requires up to 20% travel. Typically, 2 weeks or less in duration.
