The Jock Reynolds Fellowship in Public Programs is a full‑time, one‑year position, intended for an emerging professional with a master’s degree who is considering a career in public programs and engagement. Yale University Art Gallery programs connect curricular, co-curricular, and community initiatives and interests through a range of in‑person and digital engagement opportunities. The fellow is situated in the Education Department, reporting to the Jane and Gerald Katcher Curator of Programs.

The incumbent gains broad experience in museum work and public programs and engagement, in addition to learning from museum staff about art‑based pedagogies and the Gallery’s global collections. Moreover, the fellow participates in community, university, Gallery, and department training sessions and initiatives. They work closely with colleagues and collaborators across and beyond Yale University and New Haven.

The fellow develops, presents, and evaluates programs and assists in creating and sharing public‑engagement events, resources, and materials. They contribute to forging connections with the Gallery’s multiple audiences, and they become immersed in the cultural life of Yale and New Haven. A key project is to help oversee collaborations in the Gallery+ and Studio Program series as well as talk series held weekly in the galleries for the general public.

The incumbent joins the national Network of Public Programmers and takes part in planning group meetings.

Emerging scholars with a master’s degree in art history, studio art, museum studies, public humanities, or a related field, as well as a strong interest in interdisciplinary and community‑based approaches to engagement, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal, research, and writing skills; a demonstrated ability to communicate with museum staff, faculty, students, and the public in a knowledgeable, professional, and kind manner; a demonstrated ability to connect with collaborators and audiences; a demonstrated ability to take initiative and anticipate actions needed; experience presenting programs on Zoom Webinar and developing digital content using Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable software programs;

and a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusiveness.

Summer 2026

$54,500 commensurate with education and experience; a competitive benefits package, including health insurance; a modest professional‑development stipend; and taxable reimbursement of relocation costs up to $1,500 (for a move greater than a 50‑mile distance).

At least one year of programming experience in a museum is required. The fellow must reside in the Greater New Haven area for the term of the fellowship. The workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with regular evening (especially Thursdays) and some weekend work required. The work is in person and entails movement through an open office space, the galleries, and the campus and community, along with use of computer and audio/visual equipment.
