The Department of Public Health invites applications for a 10-month full time, tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2026. Since its inception in 1989, the Department of Public Health has endeavored to educate the best public health workforce in the state of Connecticut and the region. The mission of the Department of Public Health is to advance the state of public health practice toward social justice through education, community service, research, and the pursuit of health equity.

As the most diverse department on campus, the Department of Public Health is committed to advancing equitable, healthy, and thriving communities for all. Our Department offers a Bachelor of Science Public Health (BSPH), online and on‑ground programs, Masters of Public Health (MPH), and an online Executive MPH (EMPH). Our BSPH and MPH programs have recently been re‑accredited for the next seven years by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and has recently added a new major in Health and Wellness Coaching that has been certified by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).

Brief

Description of Duties/Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will be teaching within the Department’s undergraduate and graduate Public Health Program in courses assigned by the Chairperson of the Department of Public Health. This includes teaching undergraduate courses in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, and research. Additional responsibilities will include engaging in scholarly activity through publications, presentations, grant writing and/or research; providing professional service to the department, school, university and profession;

and advising graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate or ABD in Public Health or closely related field. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply and should make clear what progress they have made on their dissertation.
  • Teaching experience that aligns with the current Public Health curriculum.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity and secure external grant funding, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer‐reviewed journals in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • Evidence of teaching experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, or research at the college level;
  • Evidence of experience advising undergraduate and/or graduate students;
  • Evidence of scholarly competence through publications, presentations, research and/or obtaining grants;
  • The ability to work and interact successfully with students and colleagues;
  • Evidence of student‐centered, caring practices for students;
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity;
  • Ability to utilize technology in the classroom;
  • Working knowledge of accreditation practices and policies;
