The Administrative Faculty Trainee is a training/entry level position whose incumbents participate in a formal development program designed to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to qualify for appointment for a designated Administrative Faculty position assigned to a higher administrative rank.

This training/entry level position is to be used as a recruitment and development tool for Bachelor’s degree graduates.

Incumbents must successfully complete the required minimum training and development program which cannot exceed two (2) years pursuant to § 10.2.1 of the SUOAF-AFSCME collective bargaining unit agreement. Upon successful completion, incumbents shall be reclassified to the designated target class pursuant to § 10.5.1 of the SUOAF-AFSCME collective bargaining unit agreement.

Note:

For appointment, a training and development plan identifying the target classification must be on file and approved by Human Resources prior to hire. Upon conclusion of the training period, proof of satisfactory completion in addition to satisfactory performance evaluations must be submitted by the Manager or Division Head and approved by Human Resources for reclassification.

The Administrative Faculty Trainee works under the immediate supervision of an employee of higher grade to whom on-the-job training, lead, or supervisory duties have been delegated. Incumbents of this class are not assigned lead or supervisory duties. Incumbents may provide basic direction or support to Student Workers, Graduate Assistants, Graduate Interns, and/or Cooperative Educational Interns.

Position Responsibilities

Participates in a formal development program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to qualify for appointment and advancement to a designated Administrative Faculty target class.

Performs and/or learns a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during the course of the training period of the designated function.

Attends and participates in a variety of learning opportunities such as trainings, conferences, committees, and meetings.

Does a variety of administrative functions to ensure operational goals and objectives are met as well as compliance with supervisory expectations, University and BOR/CSCU policies and procedures and State and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines.

May provide basic direction to Student Workers, Graduate Assistants, Graduate Interns, and/or Cooperative Educational Interns.

May collect, analyze and maintain data, databases and other record keeping; prepare and present reports.

May lead special projects.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in related area. Knowledge, skills, and abilities attributed to a formal educational program of study;
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of target classification;
