Teacher Assistant (New Haven)
Open Position Posting Number: HS-TA-NH-111225
Regular / Full Time / Non-exempt / 10 months. Open Until Filled.
Pay Details (Subject to Change):
Level I: $13.72/hour;
Level II: $14.56/hour;
Level III: $15.79/hour.
- Level I:
High school diploma/GED; pre‑school experience preferred; must enter and complete the CDA (Child Development Associate) certification process. For assistants in WV pre‑K classrooms: must begin work to obtain the WV Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) credential and complete Permanent Authorization within two school years. - Level II: CDA or state equivalent certificate. For teacher assistants in WV pre‑K classrooms: must hold an Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT).
- Level III:
Permanent WV ECCAT credential, or CDA/ACDS or equivalent plus two years of experience.
* If applicant credentials exceed those required, the applicant will advance to the highest appropriate level.
Basic Qualifications- Must meet Level I qualifications.
- Desire to work with young children.
- Knowledge of early childhood development.
- Strong interest in improving self and community.
- Self‑motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.
- Writing skills.
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record or state .
- Must pass drug screen and background check.
For WV Pre‑K classroom teacher assistants: the ECCAT authorization must be immediately obtained; the Teacher Assistant must obtain Permanent Authorization within two school years of hire. The Temporary Authorization can only be renewed once, per WVBE Policy 2525.
Position Details (Sample duties and responsibilities)- Attain an understanding of the connection between improving parent/family engagement and enhancing child development and school readiness.
- Responsible for the health & safety of enrolled children.
- Actively participate and work with the teacher in planning, developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate education plan for children.
- Encourage families to become engaged with school readiness activities.
- Assist in developing & implementing lesson plans to meet each child’s needs, interests, learning styles, and individual goals.
- Assist in assessing individual developmental progress.
- Assist in home visitation & parent‑teacher conferences.
- Maintain the center, together with the teacher and center team members, in a manner that ensures compliance with fire, safety and health standards.
