New Haven teachers are offered a variety of leadership development opportunities including but not limited to curriculum facilitator, teacher facilitator and the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute. Salary: (contingent on degree and years of experience)
$51,421 - $104,297
Certification Requirements
Must possess and maintain the certification requirements as established by Connecticut State Statutes.

Qualifications: An Instructional Coach is a certified, highly qualified teacher who demonstrates leadership skills and has expertise in curriculum, instructional strategies, child development, classroom management, and knowledge of adult learning theory. Candidate must hold an active Connecticut Educator Certificate.
Reports To: Principal and Central Office Supervisor.
Job Goal: The primary role of the Instructional Coach is to support teaching and learning through modeling, coaching, and professional development to improve and accelerate student achievement through quality instruction.
Terms of Employment: By contractual agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Teachers' bargaining unit.
Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated by provisions of the Board of Education's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel and the New Haven Teachers' Contract.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with staff to collect and analyze data for professional development needs in the school
- Coordinates, monitors and delivers district-mandated staff development as well as staff development identified by the school staff
- Supports the shared vision, mission, values, and goals of the school
- Understands and works to improve school culture
- Presents at faculty meetings
- Collaborates with staff to ensure involvement in decision-making for all participants
- Demonstrates and participates in continuous learning and professional growth
- Supports the development of a coherent instructional program with clear and well-articulated standards
- Identifies resources within the community to enhance school efforts for student achievement
- Creates opportunities for individual and group learning by expanding the ability of teachers to achieve stated goals for student achievement
- Plans and facilitates grade-level meetings
- Assists teachers in transferring theory into practice
- Assists teachers in the process of administering and interpreting assessment data to improve student achievement promptly
- Develops a plan to coordinate school efforts to support beginning teachers in the BEST Program
- Facilitates the induction of beginning teachers into their professional roles and responsibilities
- Recognizes and supports additional leadership capacity within a school
- Assists teachers in the planning and delivering of appropriate instruction
- Sustains learning through modeling and coaching
- Provides direct instruction for individual students and students in small and large groups
- Assists with any other related instructional task assigned by his/her immediate supervisor
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for all students, teachers, cultures, and individual perspectives
- Exhibits high caliber in the presentation of work, both in physical presentation and soundness of facts and concepts
- Shows courtesy, concern, and an understanding of individual problems and dealing with others
