CFS is working with a repeat client and they’re looking to add an Accountant to their team!
Location:
100% on site in New Haven
Salary: $70,000

- Be directly responsible for the support of the organization’s fiscal processes, while providing support to the Controller.
- Prepare and process all journal entries into the accounting software according to organizational policy and procedure.
- Process all monthly bank reconciliations.
- Responsible for the reconciliation of General Ledger accounts for various categories (Cash, Prepaid, Fixed Assets, Accrued Liabilities, Misc. Revenue, Grants, Pledges, and all Expense Accts).
- Reconcile and record all daily activity.
- Responsible for monthly, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Responsible for year-end financial audits.
- Serve as backup for Controller on payroll functions.
- Process and reconcile accounts payable activities, including invoices, checks, and credit card statements, ensuring accuracy and obtaining necessary approvals and signatures in a timely manner.
- Analyze AP process and identify potential discrepancies; reporting directly to the Controller.
- Resolve statement, invoice, or check discrepancies and issues with vendors promptly.
- Monitor expenses to ensure payments align with established budgets.
- Prepare weekly accounts payable summaries and process authorized weekly payments.
- Prepare and distribute annual 1099 tax forms to vendors and assist with other quarterly and annual local and state tax filings and declarations.
- Oversee tracking and timely reordering of office supplies and items for sale to residents.
- Serve as the primary backup for finance and compliance team members.
- Become certified as an Occupancy Specialist to oversee the monthly HUD recertification and move-out processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field
- 1-5 years of experience working as an accountant
- Not for profit is a plus, but not required
- Knowledge of US GAAP
