Be a part of one of the largest and most dynamic intramural programs in New England, offering over 20 leagues and tournaments throughout the academic year. With thousands of teams participating and a staff of over 100 officials and student supervisors, our program is the heart of campus recreation.

Duties/Responsibilities Game Operations and Management
  • Assist in the set-up and break-down of playing surfaces and equipment.
  • Check and assess the safety and risk of playing surfaces and equipment.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions between games, direct participants to their designated areas, and maintain control of the playing environment to ensure timely starts and efficient game flow.
  • Officiate games, enforce policies, and ensure fair play for all participants.
  • Complete end-of-game reports, documenting scores, sportsmanship ratings, and player violations.
Communication And Collaboration
  • Collaborate with co-officials to manage gameplay and resolve any issues.
  • Provide clear and consistent communication to players and coaches regarding calls and decisions.
  • Support players by assisting with sign-up and check-in processes, answering questions, and encouraging participation.
Professionalism
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings to stay informed on rules, policies, and best practices.
  • Act as a positive role model by demonstrating fairness, integrity, and respect for all participants.
  • Present yourself confidently and professionally during all scheduled shifts, adhering to the dress code and maintaining appropriate behavior.
Program Support
  • Assist with tasks such as inventorying equipment, recruitment tabling, and staffing special events.
  • Other duties as assigned such as inventorying equipment, recruitment tabling, assisting with administrative tasks, and staffing special events.
Expected Hours
  • Shifts are Sunday-Thursday nights, starting between 5:00-7:30pm depending on the sport and can end as late as midnight.
  • Minimum work expectations: one shift per week during your sport’s season(s) (3-6 hours minimum). 20 hours/week maximum.
  • Flexible scheduling around employee indicated availability.
Requirements Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
  • High school diploma
  • Must have experience playing the sport(s) for which you are applying to officiate.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Must be comfortable and confident in the sport for which you are applying to officiate.
  • Must be able to move on your feet—at times, quickly—for several hours at a time, and lift heavy objects.
  • Demonstrated communication, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Conflict management and emotional self-regulation during disagreements.
  • Commitment to customer service and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sense of responsibility and accountability towards a team.
  • Sense of pride in your work and the team culture you are a part of.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience playing competitively in one or more of the sports within the specialty you are applying.
  • Previous officiating experience is a plus, but not a requirement. We will train you!
