Under general supervision of designated supervisor, lead, assign and perform work independently or as part of a crew, related to moving, events and requiring the operation of large trucks and equipment.

UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation, and this position has responsibilities related to campus safety, emergency response, event support and wintertime snow operations. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal hours in order to meet the demands of the University. This may include early morning, evenings, weekends and holiday work as needed.



Job Duties

Moves, event support, and customer service:

  • Respond to work orders and requests related to moves and/or event set-ups. Assist in the campus wide moving of supplies, furniture, records, and/or entire departments.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to requests in a timely manner, communicating status to the customer, and following up when the move/event is complete.
  • Using the work management software, maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended.
Project work and/or general grounds work: Perform campus project work assigned to the Grounds and Events department, to include but not limited to:
  • Repainting campus cross-walks and street lines, minor repairs to landscape components such as brick walkways, courtyards or other landscape infrastructure, and sustainability programs (recycling).
  • Provide assistance as needed to the overall grounds department (and support of other facilities organizations as needed) with public works projects in addition to operating, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment including trucks, forklift, rollers, and rigging equipment.
  • Assist with general landscape and grounds work, including litter removal as needed.
Winter snow operations: Participate in the planning, scheduling, and performance of winter snow removal/plowing.
  • Maintain a plow route as necessary.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for snow call back and respond to snow/ice calls, including during off hours, as needed.
Leadership and mentorship to the Facilities division: Participate, support, and demonstrate Facilities Forward concepts and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities during work activities. Mentor, develop, and train apprentices and new employees.
  • Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus as needed.
Safety and training: Follow all safety practices/ policies/procedures, techniques and precautions in performance of duties.
  • Keep current on all required safety trainings, code/license updates and any certifications required. Serve as trainer for department on heavy equipment, such as man-lift, large loaders, and large truck plows.
  • Continuously seek out professional development opportunities that will benefit the University and your technical skills to stay current on technical skills and be knowledgeable of best practices, future trends and technologies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Valid commercial class B motor vehicle license or the ability to obtain within 12 months
  • One year of related experience in all aspects of operating heavy equipment, including large and mid-size loaders and/or large trucks with wing plow.
  • Mechanical skills and knowledge of motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes/ordinances.
  • Ability to report to work under emergency & inclement weather conditions and work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
