DescriptionUnder the immediate supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor, is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience while providing a centric scheduling/registration approach for all scheduled services provided at Huggins Hospital. Treat patients in a respectful, confidential and family-friendly manner.
Responsibilities- Ensures all aspects of the patient's financial obligations are secured: performs insurance eligibility on all insurances and provides patients with an estimate of out-of-pocket responsibility for the patient prior to the completion of the scheduled services; facilitates financial assistance as needed; calls each patient to verbally verify all demographic and insurance information.
- Obtains orders from Huggins Hospital physicians and outside facilities for any service requested to be performed at Huggins Hospital: identifies and obtains all pre-certifications required by managed care payers on scheduled ancillary services; proves medical necessity through the patient's insurance company; schedules patient in EWS per department requirements.
- Responsible for scheduling, interviewing and pre-registering all patients utilizing Huggins Hospital services: enters the appropriate diagnostic testing order, demographics and insurance information into the hospital system to facilitate patient care and hospital billing procedures; ensures the patient's flow through the scheduling and registration systems as quickly and efficiently as possible; ensures all fiscal procedures are followed consistently.
- Provides patient with all necessary information related to the scheduled service; greets patients in a professional, friendly manner; accepts and returns patient calls using appropriate telephone etiquette; ensures the patient's confidentiality is always maintained; completes and processes pre-certifications or pre-approvals as necessary according to the patient's insurance; answers the telephone, filing and record retrieval as needed; provides the patient with accepted educational materials related to the exam/appointment;
utilizes the Greenway EMR to appropriately document within the patient chart for provider correspondence related to the services provided in orders' tracking; uses the EWS system as intended to indicate patient no-shows, cancellations or completed appointments; appropriately communicates with providers and office any questions or concerns related to their patient's service. - Answers telephone promptly and politely while identifying the department and person speaking; takes accurate and concise messages and directs calls to the appropriate staff as needed; confirms all appointments in a timely manner; maintains all office machinery, placing service calls when necessary; able to answer basic billing inquiries and directs patient to the appropriate staff to address problems and establish payment plans;
maintains a clean/safe office environment, keeping office neat, clean, organized and free of clutter.
- Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings; attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes; completes all required annual education on or before the due date.
- Attendance: essential job function; employee comes to work daily, on time, and completes scheduled shift.
- HIPAA: facilitates maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Internal communication: contributes to positive team performance and a culture of service excellence through effective communication, active listening, and respect.
- Interpersonal relationships: maintains appropriate interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and visitors at all times; works as a team member with other departments.
- Safety: practices workplace safety daily.
- Graduate of approved Medical Assistant Program Practice preferred.
- One to two years of experience in the medical field unless successful completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
- Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers.
- Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress.
- Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
- Familiarity with computer and other business machines.
